About The Department…
The Department of History, established in the academic session 2023–24, is a key academic unit of the institution committed to promoting historical awareness, critical inquiry, and academic excellence. The department aims to impart quality education in history by fostering analytical thinking, research aptitude, and a comprehensive understanding of historical processes across time and space.
Since its establishment, the department has made consistent progress in strengthening its academic framework. Despite being a newly introduced department, it has actively engaged students in curriculum-based learning, seminars, presentations, and project work. Students have successfully completed academic projects covering ancient, medieval, and modern Indian history, along with thematic studies in social, cultural, political, and economic history. These activities have contributed to the development of research skills, interpretative abilities, and academic writing competence.
The department emphasizes student-centric and experiential learning methods, including document analysis, map work, timelines, case studies, and field-oriented assignments. Such pedagogical practices enhance conceptual clarity and encourage independent learning, aligning with outcome-based education principles.
To support teaching, learning, and research, the Department of History is backed by a well-equipped library section containing a substantial collection of textbooks, reference books, journals, and research materials relevant to various historical periods and historiographical approaches. These resources facilitate both classroom instruction and project-based learning.
The department is committed to continuous improvement in line with NAAC/IQAC quality benchmarks. It strives to integrate innovative teaching methodologies, interdisciplinary perspectives, and contemporary historical scholarship into its academic practices. The Department of History seeks to prepare students for higher education, competitive examinations, research, teaching careers, and allied fields, while contributing to the development of socially responsible and informed citizens.
